Company Analysis - AstraZeneca
Light at the End of the Tunnel?
Based on the current situation, one can predict some turbulent times for AstraZeneca in the next year or two. In the absence of new launches to support its ongoing R&D, AstraZeneca may have to weather the next few years by tightening its belt and getting by on its established products. However, with the undoubted strength of the business and the excellent growth strategy put in motion by its CEO David Brennan, AstraZeneca may have a few more tricks up its sleeve. Indeed, Mr Brennan has confirmed he remains committed to looking for additional ways to bolster his company’s late-stage pipeline, advising: …”We used a fair amount of our capacity on this deal [MedImmune], but not all of it”.
AstraZeneca undoubtedly has the pedigree and the knowledge base to get through this and get itself firmly back on track, and with some promising products on their way to the market and an extensive, if somewhat early-stage, pipeline backing it up, we can predict that AstraZeneca should not take too long in re-establishing itself as a leading powerhouse of global R&D within the pharmaceutical industry.
