Nov2007 Drug Protein Targets
myristoylated alanine-rich protein kinase C substrate
Also known as MARCKS, this protein interacts with plasma membranes in a phosphorylation-, myristoylation-, and calmodulin-dependent manner. It is a major substate for protein kinase C. In normal differentiated bronchial epithelial cells, it has been found to be a central regulatory molecule in secretagogue stimulation at the cell surface to mucin granule release.
- BIO-1006 is a MARCKS inhibitor, under development by BioMarck for the treatment of pulmonary and hypersecretory diseases such as COPD, asthma, bronchitis and cystic fibrosis.
- The Entrez Gene ID for MARCKS is 4082.
MAP kinase interacting serine/threonine kinase 1
Also known as Mnk1, this protein binds tightly to Erk1 and 2 and p38, the stress-activated kinase, and phosphorylates eIF4E. It is expressed in all cells and tissues, and is especially abundant in skeletal muscle.
- Biovitrum is developing a Mnk1 inhibitor for the treatment of Type II diabetes.
- Mnk1 bleongs to the Enzyme > Kinase Target Family Group. Its EC number is 2.7.11.1. The Entrez Gene ID for Mnk1 is 8569.
