11 Jan 2007

Indianapolis-headquartered pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly has entered into a licensing agreement with the wholly-owned subsidiary of OSI, Prosidion, for exclusive rights to its glucokinase activator (GKA) programme.

This agreement will expand Lilly's successful diabetes portfolio that includes the marketed compound Byetta - a synthetic extract of Gila monster lizard secretions - that it co-developed with Amylin. Vice President of Endocrine and Cardiovascular Research at Lilly, David Moller, MD, commented: "We are committed to maintaining our leadership role in diabetes care". OSI will receive an initial upfront fee of US$25 million with up to US$360 million in potential development and sales milestones.
