Cambridge Antibody Technology licenses anti-eotaxin-1 monoclonal antibody to iCo Therapeutics
15 Jan 2007
Following an internal review of its development priorities, Cambridge Antibody Technology (CAT), which became a subsidiary of AstraZeneca in May 2006, has granted iCo Therapeutics an exclusive worldwide licence for the development and commercialization of the human anti-eotaxin monoclonal antibody, CAT-213.
Based in Vancouver, Canada, iCo will have sole responsibility for all future clinical development and commercialization, and plans to advance CAT-213 initially for the treatment of ocular allergies such as allergic conjunctivitis. The deal "..illustrates the effectiveness of our innovative low-risk business model to license compounds already in clinical development and develop them to treat diseases of the eye," Andrew Rae, President and CEO of iCo noted.
The agreement, which looks set to actively progress the compound, will give the developers of rival preclinical candidates YM-355179 and PA05-017, Astellas and ProtAffin, respectively, a new incentive for accelerated development.
