Target Family Search
Dr Satish Kumar, a medicinal chemist, has recently been promoted to scientific director within a leading pharmaceutical company. As part of his drug development strategy, his team has begun investigating compounds that work on kinases to identify compounds that could potentially be repositioned as anti-inflammatory drugs. Dr Kumar used Pharmaprojects in his previous positions and knows his team can use this database to search by Origin of Material and by Partial Name. He is also aware that the latest version of Pharmaprojects enables you to search broadly by target family and by specific target. Find out below how his team searches Pharmaprojects' data to meet their project's objectives.
..see a live demonstration of the drug discovery search..Dr Kumar first searches by Target family to generate a broad range of results of all drugs acting on MAP kinases. He then refines his search by using brackets so that he can find all chemically-derived compounds.
Partial Name Search

- He clicks Drug Profile Search button.
- Expands 'Target Data' tree and expands 'Target Families' and then expands 'Enzymes' and selects 'Kinase'.
- Satish then types 'MAP' in Find box to list all types of MAP kinase.
- He then highlights a selection that he is interested in and clicks the Add button.
Origin of Material Criteria

- He expands 'Chemical Data' tree and selects 'Origin of Material Description', then selects 'Chemicals, Synthetic'.
- Clicks Add button.
Searching for a subset of data

- Satish then highlights the multiple target family search criteria and clicks the parentheses (brackets) button to designate that all grouped entries are to be matched against the subsequent AND operator.
- He clicks the Search button.
Customised display of results and export to .sdf

- To generate results, Satish clicks the Results button.
- He then creates his own report table by clicking the New button at top of screen.
- He expands main details tree and selects 'Generic Name' along with the other column headings he requires.
- He clicks the Display button and clicks Export to create a spreadsheet he can circulate to his colleagues.
Using the results from this search, Dr Kumar was able to identify an anticancer compound having MAP kinase activity and investigate the potential use of similar in-house compounds as antiinflammatory agents.
