Market Analysis Search
As a financial analyst in the healthcare division of an American venture capital group David Moor is looking to identify lucrative investment opportunities. In particular he is interested in antidiabetics that act by inhibiting dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPP-IV inhibitors). He wants to get an overall picture of the market; the number of compounds in development, who the key players are and the status worldwide. He can access all this information and more from the Pharmaprojects search interface.

Based on these results he can decide whether to invest in this area.
Trends Search
- David clicks the Trends Analysis icon from the search menu.
- He expands the 'Activity Data' tree and selects 'Any Pharmacology Description'.
- He types Dip in to the Find box and selects Dipeptidyl Peptidase IV from the list and clicks the Search button.
- To display the results David then clicks the Graph button and selects 'Line' from the Graph Type box.
Drug Profile Search
- He clicks on Drug Profile search to conduct a new search for all Dipeptidyl Peptidase IV detailed in Pharmaprojects.
- David expands the 'Activity Data' tree and selects 'Any Pharmacology Description'.
- He types Dip in to the Find box and selects Dipeptidyl Peptidase IV from the list and clicks the Search button.
Output
- To display the results David then clicks the Graph button and selects 'Originator' from the dropdown box.
- He views the report by 'World Status' and changes the Graph Type to a pie chart.
At the time of his research David observed that there were several compounds in late stage development as DPP-IV inhibitors and decided that this was a highly competitive area. He was able to assess the key players in this market and advise his clients about their investments.
