12. How is a licensing opportunity defined? Where does the information about licensing opportunities come from? How often is this updated?

We report a licensing opportunity if we have received information from the pharmaceutical company concerned that the product is available for licensing. This information can come in the form of a press release, annual report, information reported at conference or from a direct communication with the company. If a company reports that something "is available for licensing", but does not specify the particular territory, we will assume that it is available for licensing worldwide and will record a "Yes" next to each of the 40 countries listed in a drug profile.

In the web version, if a company states that a drug will be available for licensing in the future e.g. the drug is currently in preclinical trials and the company will seek partners when the drug reaches Phase II, we will record this as a future opportunity.

The licensing status will be reviewed if a drug is subsequently reported as being licensed exclusively to a particular company for a specific territory.
