17. How often are chemical structures added?
Chemical structures are added like any other source of information on Pharmaprojects and can come from a variety of sources. Most commonly chemical structures are reported at scientific conferences, and editors attend the key meetings each year. Structures may also be reported from articles, USAN or in company presentations.
Pharmaprojects includes the structure(s) for the active agent or will report the structure of a lead candidate where this is known. Otherwise, we will select a representative compound from a series to illustrate the structures that are being studied. The meetings of the American Chemical Society provide us with lots of chemical structures, if we have information about a general research project e.g. DPP-IV inhibitors for the treatment of diabetes we will change the lead compound as the project progresses until a final compound is selected. Chemical structures are added on a weekly basis.
