Search Support FAQ

8. What is the difference between Quick search and searching using the drug profile search?

Quick search searches across all the indices found in the drug profile and will return a hit for each time that a particular term (or synonym) is mentioned anywhere, and in any profile.

Quick search is useful if you are searching for a specific term e.g. a drug name as it allows you to quickly find any records that mention the particular drug you are looking for. However, if your search is for a broad term such as "nausea", it returns around 700 hits as it will pick up any drugs that are/have been in development for nausea and also any other records that mention nausea as an adverse event.

Searching using the drug profile search, complements the quick search. It enables you to be more specific e.g. you could search by indication for "nausea" and return all drugs (around 60) that are/have been in development for nausea, and will not pick up those others that mention nausea as a side effect.

Searching using the drug profile search also enables you to easily combine terms in order to refine your search. For example you could combine the nausea indication with the Active set to find all drugs in active development for nausea.

Hits And/Or (... Group Expression Value ...)
62     Any Indication = Nausea
7421 AND   Active, Ceased, Fully Launched = Active
=10

This is also possible to do using the Quick search; however, the string needs to be written in a specific order.
