Annual review of pharma R&D shows upturn in pipeline size despite few launches
Pharmaprojects' 2007 annual review of trends in pharmaceutical R&D appears to indicate a renewed expansion in pipeline size over the past twelve months, despite a continuing dearth of new active substances (NASs) reaching the market.
..with an overall 4.5% rise in the number of products in research and development and significant increases across all clinical phases, the picture is the most optimistic..This upturn would seem to confound the theory that continuing expansion in the size of the pipeline was being curtailed by poor productivity. Indeed, with an overall 4.5% rise in the number of products in research and development and significant increases across all clinical phases, the picture is the most optimistic since the last phase of rapid pipeline expansion seemed to come to an end in 2004.
